The Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia (Ef. A. Ilia) is the competent body for managing the Archaeological Site of Bassae and the Temple of Epicurious Apollo.

The Ephorate is a regional service unit of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture.

It exercises its responsibilities in the Regional Unit of Ilia in collaboration with the respective Directorates of the of the Ministry of Culture.

The Ephorate operates and manages all the archaeological sites and museums in its jurisdiction and supervises all matters related to antiquities.

Among the Ephorate’s duties is the systematic and rescue excavations, archaeological research, study, the conservation of antiquities and the coordination – implementation of every necessary work and action for the safeguarding, studying and promoting the cultural heritage.

The scientific staff and all employees are also responsible for organizing or participating in periodic exhibitions, educational programmes, scientific lectures, seminars and conferences with topics related to antiquities and archaeology.
